A B.C. man's Facebook video of his 101-year-old mother playing in the snow and making a snowball is reminding people worldwide that there's still plenty of joy in the world.
Armand Foisy lives in Lillooet with his wife and his mom Albina, who turned 101 on Oct. 6.
Armand says his mom lived on her own until she was 100 and now lives with them, but still takes care of herself.
"When you're 101 the wheels start to fall off, but not mentally," says Armand.
"That's the amazing thing about her. Her strength and her joy of living is not diminished one iota. She laughs at everything, she's so giving."
And it's this wonder and joy that has made Armand's video go viral – being watched more than 85,000 times and counting.
On Tuesday, it was raining in Lillooet, but Armand and his wife could see the snow level was really low and it would be snowing in some areas. So the three of them bundled into the car and decided to check it out. At one point, Armand stopped the car along Highway 99, about three-and-a-half kilometres south of Lillooet, to see if there was any traffic coming.
Before he knew what was happening, Albina had unbuckled her seat belt and hopped out the car to check out the snow.
That's when Armand turned the camera on.
"When you have a mother who's 101 years old, it's a good idea to keep the camera nearby for those special moments," he says in the video.
Albina takes a few steps and then grabs some snow to make a snowball. Her excited laugh and infectious joy is hard to resist.
"It's kind of fun to play in the snow," she exclaims.
Armand posted the video on Wednesday and says he and his mom are amazed by the response.
"She is just so excited and thrilled," he says.
"There is a lot of sadness [in the world] so people are looking for and maybe connecting to something a little different."
Most residents of Lillooet know Armand and his mother Albina and he says everyone always asks about her.
There is a lot of skepticism in this world and none of that is from mom," he says. "The drive to learn and discover is still paramount. Everyone who knows her knows that it is constant and it never diminishes."
