Learn English: Words that are hard to spell
13 May 2016Spelling words can be tricky even if they are commonly used words in the English language.
We took to the streets of Melbourne to see how everyone's spelling measured up.
'Restaurant' refers to a place that you go to where you can buy and eat a meal.
'We are meeting at the Italian restaurant this weekend.'
'Vacuum' can be used as a verb and a noun.
As a noun, 'vacuum' refers to an empty space that has no air or other gas in it. ( chân không)
'Vacuum' also refers to a situation where someone or something is no longer in your life and you are very unhappy about it.
'When her dog died, it left a vacuum in her life.' ( sự trống trải/ trống vắng)
'To vacuum' means to clean the floor or a surface using a vacuum cleaner (máy hút bụi).
'I like to vacuum the house every Friday night.'
'Unnecessary' means not needed.
'It is unnecessary to go the supermarket three times in a day.'
'Privilege' refers to the benefit given to some people and not others.
'Having access to education should not a privilege, it should be a right.'
'Separate' as an adjective means not joined, connected or combined.
'The boys and girls have separate rooms for use in the building.'
'To separate' as a verb means to cause two or more people or things to stop being together.
'He separated the apples from oranges in the basket.'
